LIVING HISTORY AND HERITAGE WEEKEND,                   JUNE 18-19, 2005

This event is comprised of historical and educational presentations by the 37th NCT Blue Ridge Living History Society, and others, (approximately 60 to 100 Civil War re-enactors), Western North Carolina heritage  handcrafters, storytellers, and dance and music performers.

Saturday includes a "grand march" by Civil War re-enactors, including  cavalry, down the main street of Maggie Valley from Ghost Town parking lot to the Festival grounds. The troops will establish a replica of an army camp  (representing the Blue and Gray) at the Maggie Valley Festival Grounds. The Camp scenes will include recruitment stations, battlefield hospital, camp cooking, musket firing and drilling of infantry and cavalry. The public is invited  to participate in various aspects, i.e. recruitment and signing, drilling instructions and other "hands-on"  individual involvement.

Also on Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., artisans will display and demonstrate period handcrafts at the Festival Grounds including blacksmiths, quilt makers, soap makers, potters, weavers, candle makers,  etc.

There will be a Civil War camp at Cataloochee Ranch. Activites at the camp include  evening a "candlelight tour", with five Civil War  scenes. These vignettes consist of a skirmish between  Blue and Gray, a refugee scene, a hospital scene, a surrender scene and a small  camp setup on Saturday evening from 8 to 10 pm.

On Sunday, the Civil War encampment and period handcrafting demonstrations at  the Maggie Valley Festival Grounds continue from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
